  • Employment Type: TravelSalary: $2,770.00/weekMedical specialty: Neonatal Intensive Care UnitStandard shift: DaysWeekly schedule: 3x12Shift Timings: 07:00 AM - 07:30 PM, Every other weekend OR Nights (07:00 PM - 07:30 AM), Every other weekend Floating: PICUJob Summary:Neonatal intensive care RNs provide critical care to premature and sick newborns.Utilize the nursing process in the provision of direct patient care.Responsible and accountable for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating all care provided to assigned patients.Ensures a newborn's critical care treatment is secure.Delivery of care is based on the standards of care and practices established by the Department of Nursing and other policies and procedures (hospital, nursing, multidisciplinary).Diagnose and treat human responses to actual and potential health problems through such services as case finding, health teaching, health counseling, and provision of care supportive or to restorative of life and well-being.Supervise patient care provided by licensed practical nurses (LPNs), registered nurses on permit (RNP), nursing attendants, technicians, and supplemental staff.Assess the immediate and continuing care needs of the patient and parent(s).Provides respiratory care support ensuring that ventilator equipment is functioning properly and items such as tubing is patent, tape and tubing are in place, oxygen saturation levels remain at appropriate levels, ensures that blood gases show good oxygen exchange, perform chest suction when needed, etc..Feeds NICU patients via bottle, naso-gastric (ng) tubes or IV.Sets up IV pumps and maintains feeding rates.Measure abdominal girth and check for stools for blood.Start IVs and draw blood as needed.Assess IV and draw sites for skin breakdown and skin damage.Work with physicians and upper-level nursing to develop and assist with treatment and examination of patients.Develop comprehensive and current plans of care which include physical needs, caregiver teaching, discharge planning, home care and psychosocial/spiritual needs.Provide direct patient care based on assessed needs and the medical regimen.Oversees and ensures the provision of all aspects of care for the patient.Supervises the care provided by other nursing personnel as defined in the scope of practice.Observe, evaluate, document, and communicate to relevant team members the patient's response to illness and/or therapeutic modalities.Ensures timely reassessment of patient responses to treatment and when significant changes occur in patient condition and/or diagnosis.Coordinate the overall plan of care to ensure implementation of nursing interventions and consistency with medical regimen.Establish priorities for care in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team and initiates follow-up, as indicated, to ensure timely provision of patient care and therapeutic modalities.Assure the plan of care integrates age-specific care needs (e.g. pediatrics, geriatrics) as defined in the unit scope of care.Accept responsibility and accountability for nursing interventions and outcomes based on professional clinical judgments.Participate in QI activities related to patient care delivery and the development of nursing/hospital standards.Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively, manage stressful situations appropriately and facilitate interpersonal relationships with other disciplines.Required Skills & Experience:1+ year in emergency or critical care setting.1+ year in pediatric setting.Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required.Preferred Education:Master's Degree in Nursing, preferred.
