Description:This is a dynamic position responsible for the
productivity of the Glue department as well as overseeing that
quality procedures are carried out throughout on a regular basis.
The Glue Press Lead is accountable for ensuring that production
scheduled for completion is executed in a timely manner and all
quality standards and procedures are followed. The position will
have indirect oversight over team members carrying out tasks within
the position's scope as well as participating in the hourly
development and performance management processes at the discretion
of the supervisor. It is essential that this position communicates
company strategies and objectives to team members including safety,
quality, productivity and output and provides support to management
in the areas of team member training and coaching.
Major Duties And ResponsibilitiesGlue Press Lead
- Leads the glue table operation and quality within these areas
to support manufacturing and daily production goals maintaining a
rate of 850 feet of product produced per hour.
- Adjust glue press settings based on the species and product
thickness while communicating with the Glue Rip Operator to
coordinate press cycles as well as production issues to the glue
spreader.
- Ensure the safety and productivity of all employees within
designated areas as well as enforcing quality procedures.
- Ensure documentation is completed including daily completion of
pre-shift, end of shift, and quality checklists for each designated
area. Create and update quality checklists as appropriate
- Audits the glue department daily to ensure adhesion to company
safety policies and housekeeping requirements and addresses
concerns with Management.
- Ensure non-stop operation in partnership with various
department leads to deliver the correct product in sufficient
quantities aligning with quality procedures.
- Conducts equipment set-up, basic maintenance and
troubleshooting as needed
- Provides training and coaching to the operators in assigned
areas as directed
- Effective communication between management and operators.
- Listens to operator feedback and escalates concerns to
management
- Identifies and fulfills training needs, knowledge-gaps, and
areas for continuous improvement
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1-2 years' experience in manufacturing, warehouse, or
operations (Team Lead)
- Demonstrated leadership skills or a strong desire to pursue a
leadership career pathKnowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Demonstrate an understanding of basic woodworking
- Ability to perform LOTO and use proficiently use tools such as
micrometer, tape measure, go/no-go gauge, and wet-mil gauge
moisture meter.
- Thorough understanding of applicable quality control processes
and procedures
- Intimate operating knowledge of all available processing
equipment within scope
- Ability to identify process failures when they happen and coach
the team through problem solving
- Ability to interpret and execute various technical procedures
in verbal, written, mathematical or diagrammatical form
- Ability to work in a team environment and motivate others to
meet demands established by the schedule
- Basic knowledge of OSHA safety practices
- Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills
- Possesses excellent organizational skills
- Ability to adapt to changes and continuous improvement
initiatives
- Basic math skills
- Demonstrates a high level of integrity
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Visual acuity, with or without corrective lenses, to discern
product defects at an arm's length
- Ability to hear speech and/or alarms through noise on the
production floor
- Standing, reaching with hands and arms, and using hands and
fingers to manipulate instrument or equipment controls, computer
keyboard, office equipment, objects and tools
- Movement from one work location to another
- Standing often for extended periods of time
- Safely lifting objects up to 50 lbs.
- Temperature within manufacturing plant may vary between 60- 90
degrees, and can occasionally exceed 90 degrees
- Exposure to intermittent or constant sounds generated by
equipment
- Exposure to fumes, noxious odors and dust
- Handling of toxic or caustic chemicals
- Proximity to moving parts
